MUDVAYNE, PAPA ROACH, TRAPT Members Share Halloween Experiences
October 31, 2008Friday (October 31) is Halloween, and The Pulse of Radio asked several musicians to share some of their Halloween experiences, whether it be a costume they wore onstage or a time that they got a good holiday scare. TRAPT frontman Chris Brown told The Pulse of Radio about the time he dressed as a Japanese sumo wrestler for a show in Raleigh, North Carolina. "There's this big, baggy suit that you put on, and then there is a belt pack underneath it that has a battery pack connected to an oscillating fan that's in the back," he said. "And so when you turn that on, it fills the suit full of air, so you just turn into this massive sumo wrestler. And I went onstage and I think I made it through two songs before I was absolutely dying from heat exhaustion inside that suit."
PAPA ROACH vocalist Jacoby Shaddix, meanwhile, told us that one of his earliest costumes offered a sure sign that he might perform for people some day. "I was like 11 or 12 years old, my mom's like, 'Well, what do you wanna be for Halloween?' And I was like, 'You know what? I wanna be Liberace,'" he said. "And I was Liberace for Halloween. And I'm telling you, I had the crushed red velvet pants with the gold lace and the cape and the shirt with the ruffles on the front and I had my hair all feathered and I was like full makeup and that's when I knew I was, like, a little bit different. And my mom thought that was so cool and I was just in the zone, I loved it."
MUDVAYNE drummer Matt McDonough did not remember a particular costume, but did recall one time that he stayed home on Halloween — and got a good fright anyway: "I'd probably been watching a movie, it was about eleven o'clock at night. I was taking the trash out, and I go downstairs — I was living in an apartment building at the time — I open the door to the parking lot, and as I open the door, it sounds like a U2 concert. So loud that it actually scared me. It was 80,000 screaming people that were partying two blocks from my house. It was crazy! And I ran outside and I'm like, 'Oh my God, you know, what's going on?' Put the trash out and I went back and hid in the house for the rest of the night. And I'm like, 'I am not going out tonight.'"
